Nova Poshta cash on delivery on your site: how to set it up

Two ways to get paid through Nova Poshta

Cash on delivery (money transfer). The buyer pays at the branch and the money reaches the sender as a transfer provided by NovaPay LLC. Per Nova Poshta’s tariff the fee is 2% + UAH 20, or 1% + UAH 10 when paid out to a NovaPay card; payouts to business cards are not made, and payout limits apply.

Payment control (cash-on-delivery agreement). A service for FOPs and companies: the money goes to the current account with registers of waybill number, buyer name and amount. Per Nova Poshta’s tariff the fee is 1.3%, or 0.5% to a NovaPay account. For a FOP store this is usually the more convenient option.

What you need

• A Nova Poshta contract and an API key from my.novaposhta.ua (or a Nova Post v1 key from your manager).
• For payment control — a cash-on-delivery agreement and a FOP or company account.
• Sender details: name, phone, city and dispatch branch.
• Product weights, or a default weight and box size in the module settings.

How to set up cash on delivery on Tobto.shop

1. In the store admin install the free «Nova Poshta» extension from the marketplace.
2. Enable the delivery method in «Settings» → «Shipping», paste the API key and sender details.
3. Enable the «Payment on delivery» payment method — the buyer sees it at checkout.
4. In the module settings turn on «Cash on delivery for unpaid orders»: the waybill of an unpaid order gets cash on delivery for the order total.
5. Choose who pays for delivery: the buyer at pickup or you.
6. Place a test order with payment on delivery and create the waybill from the order.

When creating a waybill in shipments you can choose the payment-on-delivery mode per parcel: as in the order, none, cash on delivery or payment control. The module tracks the parcel and the cash-on-delivery payout, and shipping automation can mark the order paid when the money arrives.

Fiscal receipts for cash on delivery

This is the least clear-cut topic. The answer depends on who takes the money at the branch and in whose name. The Odesa regional tax office explained that when a financial intermediary takes the payment for the seller, the seller issues the receipt before dispatch, marked as credit with a non-cash form of payment. Commercial PRROs, meanwhile, offer schemes that issue the receipt when the parcel is collected.

According to the tax service, the free PRRO DPS has no cash-on-delivery operations. Checkbox has its own Nova Poshta integration for such receipts. Agree the scheme with your accountant before launch.

How to reduce refused parcels

• Show the delivery price and time in the cart.
• Confirm large orders by phone or message — the checkout lets the buyer ask not to be called.
• Ask for a partial card prepayment on expensive goods.
• Watch parcels waiting at the branch and remind the buyer.
• Offer online card payment as an alternative with no transfer fee.
